Invitation from Chairmen
Dear Colleagues,
Professor Yiu-Wing Mai
will celebrate his 60th birthday in early 2006. In
commemoration of this event a special International Workshop
entitled "Fracture of Materials: Moving Forwards" will be
held in Sydney, January 23 ~ 25, 2006.
After consulting with
Professor Mai, we have decided to issue a special invitation
to all his friends, and, colleagues and students, current
and former, to get together to celebrate this special
occasion.
As the Chairmen of
this International Workshop, we would like to invite you to
join us for the special event. It is sure to be
scientifically stimulating, reflecting the many areas in
which Professor Mai has made significant contributions in
the field of materials ranging from classical fracture
mechanics modelling to nano-materials, and has colleagues
from every continent of the world.
We are looking forward
to seeing you in Sydney for a memorable celebration.

Theme
Fracture of materials
as a discipline has been studied for many years. However,
with the rapid development of materials science and
technology, researchers are continually faced with new
challenges in fracture mechanics of advanced materials. In
recent years significant progress has been made in many
areas of fracture mechanics of materials from nano-, micro-,
meso-, macro-scales to the structural scales. An
International Workshop on "Fracture of Materials: Moving
Forwards" will be held on 23-25 January 2006, in Sydney to
provide an international forum for the presentation and
discussion of state-of-the-art achievements and future
trends in fracture of materials.
This workshop is
organized to honor Professor Yiu-Wing Mai, an eminent
scholar and educator, who has made many important
contributions to the field of Fracture of Materials during
his time at the University of Sydney, on the occasion of his
60th birthday. It is our great pleasure to invite all his
former/current colleagues, friends, research fellows and
graduate students to join this exciting reunion at Sydney in
2006.
